1. What is your birthplace? Also, from where did you completed your school and college?

Mukul – I was born in Mumbai, though I did most of my schooling in Chennai at a school called Sishya. I then got a scholarship to do my plus two from an international school – UWC – in New Mexico in the US. Then I came back to study Mathematics at St. Stephen’s College in Delhi. And then an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.

2. How do you find an interest in acting?

Mukul – I was always interested in acting from a very young age. I was always on stage from my school days, and continued it through college, post-grad, and even while working in a bank much later!

3. From where did you learn acting? Also, according to you – self- learning or Learning from an expert. Which one has more impact?

Mukul – I’ve mostly learned by doing, from directors I’ve worked with, or workshops taken. The only formal education I had was a set of part-time courses I took at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in NYC, while I was working there.

I really don’t know which has more impact – everything counts. I’m still learning πŸ™‚

4. Chasing your dream was difficult?

Mukul – Its very difficult. I’m still struggling hahaha. I mean, it’s still hard to get the kind of work I would like to do, on a regular basis.

So yes, it’s a very hard profession. Lots of moments of self-doubt and frustration. And that never ends.

5. In such a cutthroat competition what is your USP?

Mukul – I wish I knew how to answer such questions – to treat myself as a business in a competitive environment, with my USP, positioning, SWAT analysis, pricing strategy, promotion plan all sorted out. The truth is I act because I enjoy acting, and frankly, I’m clueless as to how to sell myself effectively as a product. I wish I were better at it.

6.What do you feel about the emerging trend of web series?

Mukul – I’m overjoyed by this trend! It’s got a lot of us so much more work, as so much more content is being created. And the bar has been raised, there’s a lot of good content being made. Plus, because the storylines of a lot of web shows is more novelistic – with multiple storylines and character graphs, there’s an opportunity for multiple roles to be more challenging and meaty within a web show.

7. Which is your favorite genre?

Mukul – I don’t know. Thrillers, Comedy, Drama, Horror, I consume them all. I really enjoy watching conflicted characters in shows. And that cuts across all genres.

8. Which is your favorite show, video, or series in which you have acted?

Mukul – The Office πŸ™‚

9Do you have any dream role?

Mukul – Someone asked me this, and I said reprising the role of Walter White in a remake of Breaking Bad. I’m going to stick to that answer.

10. Do you have role models?

Mukul – Several. Pankaj Kapur, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Pankaj Tripathi, Paresh Rawal, to name some.

11.What was the first reaction of your family when you told them that you want to choose acting as your profession?

Mukul – My parents were very supportive. I think the fact that it was my second career, and that I was older and financially independent when I made this decision, might have made it easier.

12. Do you ever think of writing or directing videos, web series, or movies?

Mukul – Yes, I would like to write. It has been a long-standing interest of mine, and I hope to get back to doing it.

13. Apart from acting do you have an interest in sports or any other field?

Mukul – I run, have taken part a few short triathlons. I like to swim, cycle, play chess. I used to play poker and squash, but don’t do so as much now.

14. Share some suggestions for the upcoming beginners of your stream?

Mukul – My suggestion is – don’t listen to me, find your own path πŸ™‚

15. What is your biggest dream?

Mukul – To be in a position where I have a constant choice of great projects to act in.

16. What are your upcoming projects?
