1. What is your birthplace? Also, from where did you completed your school and college?
Abhinav – I was born in Janakpuri, New Delhi, and went to D.P.S. Vasant Kunj. I feel school for me was probably not the best time, I felt I was always trying to be someone I’m not, and I feel blessed that drama made a way into my life when I was in the 11th grade because I do believe it saved me in more ways than one.
College was Hansraj, Delhi University where I did three years of dramatics ( Stage and Street Plays) and that for me was the turning point because I’d figured I need to let the passion merge with hard work and make something out of what I love doing.
2. How do you find an interest in acting?
Abhinav – When I was 12 or 13 I don’t remember honestly, I went for this summer workshop with a theater practitioner who now, is my guru and guide in life and I remember him just telling me that I was born to be an actor. I do believe that I saw honesty in his eyes when he said that to me.
That moment stayed with me throughout the school life even when I wasn’t necessarily working on the craft per se and to be honest I always go back to that moment whenever I need to remind myself that I’m in this field for the right reasons.
3. From where did you learn acting? Also, according to you – self- learning or Learning from an expert. Which one has more impact?
Abhinav – I went to The Lee Strasberg Theater And Film Institute in New York once I graduated from Hansraj College. I’m a big believer in that if you are passionate about something and you have the resources at hand, there is absolutely no reason why you should not invest in your talent and gain tools to further your development.
Both experiences gained via life in general and drama school can add to your box of knowledge. So I believe both are impactful, but yes, training helps.
4. Chasing your dream was difficult?
Abhinav – I think difficulties depend on circumstances, and those can be different for different people, what matters more than anything I feel is support from your family, which I have had in abundance, always. That makes things more comfortable when you know that you share a dream and it’s not just yours. Some people believe in your purpose as much as you do. Find those people and the other thing as cliche as it may sound, believe in yourself. It makes all the difference.
5. In such a cutthroat competition what is your USP?
Abhinav – I don’t spend much time wondering about the competition. It’s not been my space ever. We all have our honesty to portray, and we’re all beautifully different.
6. What do you feel about the emerging trend of web series?
Abhinav – It’s incredible, and even though as is the case with anything that’s on the rise, the medium is being heavily exploited, you still find so much genuine creativity being allowed that it’s beautiful to see.
It’s also creating immense employment not just for actors but technicians and other creatives as well, and rightfully so. Its high time talent gets the work it deserves.
7. Which is your favorite genre?
Abhinav – I watch everything. I am the millennial binge-watcher in it’s most real sense.
8. Which is your favorite show, video, or series in which you have acted?
Abhinav – I mean I’ve only done two as of now, The Office (hotstar) and Imperfect The Zoom Studios (youtube).
9. Do you have any dream role?
Abhinav – Not really, I want to play all kinds of roles.
10. Do you have role models?
Abhinav – My family as a whole, I guess. I’m very grateful to have them.
11. What was the first reaction of your family when you told them that you want to choose acting as your profession?
Abhinav – I think it took a while for them to register the fact that I am keen to pursue it, and it’s not just a “hobby.” However, once they saw me perform a couple of times, I felt they were on board with me.
12. Is your family was supportive when you told them that you want to become an actor? If not, then how did you convince?
Abhinav – Supportive, from the word, go.
13. Do you ever think of writing or directing videos, web series, or movies?
Abhinav – Of course, I find it difficult to tell people what I do because there’s so much we all do all the time. I have high ambitions.
14. Apart from acting do you have an interest in sports or any other field?
Abhinav – I mean, I play football when I can even though “I was bang average at it.” I watch a lot of it, and it’s something that I’m an actual fan of, so yeah.
15. Share some suggestions for the upcoming beginners of your stream?
Abhinav – Stay true to why you want to do it, honesty always shows. You carry energy with you when you’re pursuing your dream, be aware of it, and trust the process.
16. What is your biggest dream?
